We may have some harmful habits. We may have some unwanted character traits.

We may feel like our tendencies, automatic responses, emotions, wants and desires are pulling us away from the person we wish to become. We may feel like a failure, having repeatedly tried to change ourselves, with nothing to show for it. But we were not intended to live life this way. We were not created to face our battles on our own. God is ready and waiting to give us His power to overcome all harmful influences that want to control our lives. He wants to heal and restore us.

Too often we try to solve our own problems. We collapse under the weight of burdens and unknowns, as we try to predict all possible outcomes and make decisions to come up with the 'best' solution. But there is a much simpler way. A way that offers freedom. Let go of all your plans, unknowns and burdens. Hand them all to Jesus. He knows the end from the beginning and can lead you through life in an amazing, personal way.

"Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matt 11:28 (NLT)

Be faithful in the small jobs that God gives you to do, for they are a teaching ground used to prepare you for bigger projects.

Sometimes it may seem like the tasks we are asked to do are not very significant or important. They may be things which we don't like doing. But each task we are asked to do has a purpose. Each job, done with the right attitude, can be used to bring a change, teach us a skill or give us new insight. It can be used to develop character traits, like endurance, patience, honesty and faith.

When I think about being faithful in the small things, I am reminded of many stories, including the story of Joseph, who being sold as a slave, worked for his Egyptian master. It could seem that the jobs he was asked to do as a slave were not very important, yet, because he was faithful to God and in doing his tasks, God was with him and "he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master." (Gen 39:2, NLT).

You can read Joseph's story from working as a slave to being second in command after the Pharaoh. The story is found in the Bible, in the book of Genesis, starting in chapter 39.
