Be faithful in the small jobs that God gives you to do, for they are a teaching ground used to prepare you for bigger projects.

Sometimes it may seem like the tasks we are asked to do are not very significant or important. They may be things which we don't like doing. But each task we are asked to do has a purpose. Each job, done with the right attitude, can be used to bring a change, teach us a skill or give us new insight. It can be used to develop character traits, like endurance, patience, honesty and faith.

When I think about being faithful in the small things, I am reminded of many stories, including the story of Joseph, who being sold as a slave, worked for his Egyptian master. It could seem that the jobs he was asked to do as a slave were not very important, yet, because he was faithful to God and in doing his tasks, God was with him and "he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master." (Gen 39:2, NLT).

You can read Joseph's story from working as a slave to being second in command after the Pharaoh. The story is found in the Bible, in the book of Genesis, starting in chapter 39.

Be faithful in the small things

In life there are trials and challenges, which can present and affect us in different ways. During these times hold on tightly to God’s promises. He said that He will sustain us and will see us through.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

Life is such a complex, un-explainable concept. How can something come from nothing?

Cells come together, they multiply, evolve and given time they turn into a living, breathing being.

The more we look into how we are made, the more we realise just how little we actually know about how the whole DNA system works.

If you are looking for answers to your origin, the Bible tells us that we are not here by accident. God spoke to a man named Jeremiah, saying: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" (these words are recorded in the Bible in Jeremiah 1:5). These words don't apply just to Jeremiah, but to each one of us. God individually designs and creates each person with a purpose. He knows everything there is to know about us. He says that even "the very hairs of your head are all numbered" (Luke 12:7) so we have nothing to fear, as He is always looking after us.

So when you look at your reflection in the mirror, be reminded that you are intricately made. There is no one else like you. You are one of a kind, created by the Almighty God.

"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well." Psalm 139:14 (NKJV)

Some life experiences are positive and welcomed with open arms. Others leave us confused and lost for words. There are also those which seem common or insignificant. But every life experience has a lesson in it for us. These lessons might not always seem obvious and we may need to search a little deeper in order to discover them.

Leaving the shops the other day, my heavily overloaded, reusable shopping bag ripped, with more groceries than what my hands could carry spilling onto the path. Immediately two people jumped in to help me! A lady asked if she could help me carry my groceries to the car, while a man ran over to me, handing me a shopping basket to put my scattered groceries into.

This experience taught me what a big difference a stranger's act can make. It also reminded me of the importance of looking for opportunities to be that stranger.

When you entrust your life to its sustainer, you can face every life experience with confidence, knowing that all He does is fuelled by love and that the experiences are God's practical way of shaping your character into a reflection of His.

"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 28:20
